Bev Lawrence
Handbell Director
Bev Lawrence has been ringing handbells since the early ‘80’s, and directing the Central Church Ringers since 1995. In 2000, she received her BA in Church Music from Pfeiffer University in Misenheimer, NC and had the privilege to ring and direct the University Handbell Choir.
In the earlier years, the Central Church Ringers played many concerts in the community. The group even got to ring at Chinquapin when it was still open. The Ringers had a great timing when they took the bells on the road to many handbell festivals. (There’s nothing like the sound of 400+ ringers playing the same song at the same time!)
In 2020, Bev had to re-imagine how to ring together without being shoulder-to-shoulder. The group made a video “Materna” this summer. Every ringer is on their own table and everyone is 6 ft apart, wearing gloves (a handbell requirement), plus ringers may wear masks. The Central Ringers have many songs in production now.
Bev and her husband Terry have a son, Jeremy, and grandkids Jayda and Caiden (twins!).
MINISTRY OPPORTUNITIES
Bev is always on the look-out for new handbell ringers. Someone who reads music is preferred but not necessarily required. Someone who is dedicated to making music. Music in every form is an art. Something you learn and refine over your lifetime. But once you do it, you just have to keep on doing it. (Without that commitment, it just becomes an “activity”.)
